The Dead Exs

David Patillo Issue: Section:

There's nothing like the blues. Charley Patton and the delta crew birthed it, Little Richard and Chuck Berry amped it up, Elvis gyrated it, The Stones copped it, and rock & roll was born. Ever been on a dance floor when the DJ goes retro and drops "A Whole Lotta Shakin?" We all cut loose, start twistin' and for a moment get uber energized by 4 musicians raw and unleashed in 1957.

When I started writing The Dead Exs record I was hoping people would dance to a slide gtr, a boot box, and eat some BBQ. I met Wylie Wirth and the man made some good drums. We started recording what would become our debut record "Resurrection" in the summer of 2010 in Nolita and completed it late nights over the next few months. A year later people have been dancing at our shows and having a blast. A blog called us "revival rock" and suddenly it's sort of cool.

This video "More Stuff" was shot at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, NJ and was a lot of fun to make. It made sense that a song I wrote about informercials and good old American overconsumption might be set at a vintage 1950's bowling alley and feature The Dude. Danny Miller and Jai Mitchell made it a reality and voila. Hope u guys dig it!
