Everyone has a favorite Beatle.  Mine was always George.  When I discovered photos of George's 1968 trip to India with his fellow bandmates, wearing beads and embroidered fur vests and colorful tunics and handmade sandals, the images were burned on my brain forever.  I wanted to dress like that every day.  And I did.

Growing up in the 70's, I lived for rock n roll.  Robert Plant, Jimmy Hendrix, Syd Barrett..........these rock gods were the sexiest men to me, and I wanted to be their girlfriends, living glamourous lives and jet setting around the world.  Sadly, I was stuck at my parents' house in suburban New Jersey, and the most exciting thing happening in my social life was hanging out in the parking lot at the local Friendly's.
Well, at least I could dress like them.  I emulated the effortless bohemian chic of these women and filled my closet with every fabulous Indian gauze tunic and mirrored skirt I could find.
As I grew up, my style never changed.  But as the 70's faded into distant memory, I was forced to search every vintage store and Salvation Army thrift shop from New York to LA to satisfy my bohemian cravings.

When I finally got the chance to visit India, I snatched up every fabulous embroidered garment I encountered.  But though I searched high and low, I couldn't find a great handbag.  When I stumbled upon an amazing antique sequined bedspread in Jaipur I knew instantly it would make the perfect bag.  I made a few for myself and returned to New York, assuming the fashion industry would be appalled at my throwback 70's style.

A few weeks later I was innocently perusing some photographs at an art opening when I was cornered by a woman who demanded to know where I bought my sequined bag.  Little did I know she was a fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar, and within months my simple childhood bohemian obsession would be splashed across the pages of one of America's most influential fashion bibles.   And now my designs are being worn by glamourous rock star girlfriends jet setting throughout the world.
